dgehrett9678 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I have a client that wants something like this sink modeled in Solidworks for him to import into CAM and make on a CNC machine. I need the model to be completely smooth so they need minimal sanding/finishing after the CNC. How would you make this? It is rectuangular near the edges, eliptical in the center and circular near the drain. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. Doogie Quote

shift1313 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I would start with surfaces. Draw the profile of the main arc(as if you sliced the sink in half lengthwise. Then draw the profile of the arc in the other direction and sweep it. From there i draw a top down sketch and slice the surface and use filled surfaces using the Curvature option. Maximusmountain Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I personally if you wanted it REALLY accurate would create 4-5 planes (its quite easy to do, de-select everything, click on one of the plans in the left hand coloumn, hold down ctrl and drag the corner) and set them differant distances away from each other, once you have done that do the drawings for each cross section that you want (only make the pure easy shape at the moment) and then use the "loft" feature going from left to right, or right to left (as it really doesnt like clicking in a random order!) and then you will have the basic idea of it. Then you should draw in the top plane, create your plug and then extruded cut it, can crate bushes if need be, and fillets with the "fillet" tool afterwards, its all good fun. hope it helps! Quote
shift1313 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 The more sections you use for your loft, the less stable it will be. Same thing with control points on the splines. If you have something that needs very specific shape at specific dimensions then you will need these multiple sections to control it, but for something like this you should create it with as few as possible. Below is another way to do this. single loft for the main body. the remaining sections will be lofted from the straight edges down to the surface using the surface to control their tangency. Quote
