Hello.

Does anyone know if it is possible to extract an aerial photo from Google Earth (free or pro) with 'world file' coordinates for inserting into AutoCAD.

I have AutoCAD 2010Lt and 2006 full. With my full version I have "raster manager" installed, which allows me to insert aerial photos with world files, which I normally purchase from a supplier.

I just read http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=43246&highlight=google+earth+pro this thread with interest, but it appears the add on suggested won't run on my versions of software.

Thank you,

Alex

I do this all the time. I get my aerial photography from the pennsylvania spatial data access website ( i work in PA). I have not had luck with google earth and world files. Try the usgs aerial photos from the national map. These can be viewed and downloaded from http://terraserver-usa.com/

It is possible to download aerial imagery through Civil 3D with Google Earth pro and it does create world files. You can do it with Google Earth free but it is only gray scale and then there is also the copyright infringement issue to deal with as well. If you have the pro version that is not a factor.

Thank you both, that it is a shame :(

Thanks for the suggested site dirtlegg - I'm in the UK though. I have a couple of suppliers I use who are good, but it would have been nice to have this option if it was possible too.

Be careful with Google Earth coordinates in the UK. The Google Earth zero meridian is 104 metres east of Greenwich Prime Meridian.

You can get Transverse Mercator coordinates shown, but they are not the same as the Ordnance Survey coordinates.

Better to match the shapes with local mapping.
