Wilbri Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I have experienced problems when inserting blocks into a drawing in the past and would appreciate clarity on the following question: When inserting a block into a drawing, are the properties contained in the block adopted by the drawing or vice versa? ReMark Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I suppose it depends on how the block was created. I make all my blocks on layer 0 that way when they are inserted they inherit the properties of the layer they are inserted on. Quote
Wilbri Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Thank you ReMark I have recently been informed to use layer "0" which is the obvious answer. Maybe I should have remembered the previous advice. Quote
Pablo Ferral Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 If the Block is already defined in the Drawing Autocad will use that block definition as the default. So if you insert a block into a drawing and then edit the block, when you reinsert that block Autocad will ignore the new definition and just inert another instance of your edited block. If you want to 'reset' your edited block, the easiest way to to redefine it via the Design Centre. In the Design Centre browse to your drawing that contains the original block definition, expand the block node to revel the block you are looking for, then right click on it and choose 'Redefine' http://docs.autodesk.com/ACD/2010/ENU/AutoCAD%202010%20User%20Documentation/ Quote
Wilbri Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Thank you Pablo More good news. So if I understand you correctly you are referring to an existing block that has not been created on layer "0" as described by ReMark? Quote
Pablo Ferral Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 The two things are not related! How about this for a quick introduction to blocks ;-) http://thecadsetterout.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/autocad-tip-use-blocks-to-reuse-standard-geometry/ Quote
Wilbri Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 Pablo Many thanks for the reference. We have folks staying over until Tuesday so my time is rather limited at the moment. From what I have gleaned from a brief review, this information would seam to provide what I need to know. Quote
