Hi There,

Does anyone know if it is possible to have a parameter change based on the value of another parameter?

eg, I have an angle steel section block with a lookup table containing the standard dimensions for height, width and section thickness. I have defined the internal bend radius as 2mm and want the external bend radius to dynamically change to +

I can add another column to the lookup table for external radius but was hoping I could avoid it, as the same problem applies to RHS and SHS section blocks I have, ie. lots of sections.....

Thanks

Are you using Autocad pre 2010?

In theory this was possible by using the distance multiplier value of the action, but it's pretty unweildy. Would you like to post your block?

This problem has been dealt with beautifully in 2010 using parameters and constraints. Give me a shout if you need an example.

I'm using 2008 however we're upgrading to 2010 in a month. I had read that 2010 can do what I'm wanting, so I might just wait until I get my upgrade.

Thanks

Hi Folks,

I thought I'd revive this old thread of mine in the hope that someone has had enough experience with 2010 or 2011 to offer some advice. Pablo, you mentioned you had an example. Would you mind sharing it?

Any other ideas any one?

Cheers

Open up the standard toolpalettes and look for the example of an I beam.

Thanks Pablo, that was exactly what I needed.

I have a question though. Is it possible to place a text object that is dynamic, ie as I change the parameters for the block it updates the text to reflect the new standard size section? This would be handy to see at a glance what size section has been used in the drawing, I could also use it for scheduling.

Cheers
