barth11496 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Hello to all!!. Lets see if someone would answer this question for me, is it ok for autocad to rename or number a block in the current drawing....meaning if i have a block named say (block1) and i insert it, and when i insert (block1) again can it be automaticly renamed like (block12) or somthing, i would say kind of like how refedit works, when you edit a block in place, say i have (block1) in my drawing 5 times doing a refedit on it will remove that block from the drawing and change only that block and not the rest and just renumber all the other blocks with a suffix or something...... i insert the same block many times in a drawing and need each block to be named different from each other, Quote
dbroada Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 the question has to be, why do you need them named differently from each other if they are identical. If it is for identification purposes you are much better off using attributes. But to answer your question, not really. When you insert your second block , IT IS a block1. You can BEDIT it and save as a different name but you would then have to erase the one you just inserted before inserting a new one. Much better would be to insert block1. Bedit that to save as new name and then insert the newly created block2. There is no mechanism (to my knowledge) that would allow a substitute name upon insertion. I have to say again that unless you have a fiendish plan that I can't see you are using blocks in the most inefficient way imaginable. ===================================================== ok, having re-read what ou posted I may have mis understood in which case I suggest looking into BEDIT & saveas. However, a dynamic block with a couple of visibility states may be more efficient. Quote
