Opening a Drawing from "My Documents" Folder

Recommended Posts

I have loaded AutoCAD 2010 recently. I also open drawings by browsing through "My Documents" folders. The problem is that now when I double click to open a drawing, it tries to open the AutoCAD 2008 that is still loaded on my machine (I need 2008 to use another program, Don't have it for 2010 yet).

Is there a setting somewhere to set this? I have been through the folder options and changed the details for 'dwg' extension to the 2010.exe file, but it always goes back to the AutoCAD DWG Launcher.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bert

Right click on the drawing, select open with, in the list, select the AutoCAD 2010 icon in program list, and check the box that says "Always use the selcted program to open this kind of file"

(hope this works, did 4 me when upgraded from '04 to '08 at work)

Skipso beat me to it, the solution Skip stated worked for me too!

I did have problems having to AutoCAD programs on the same HDD at one time.

The 'cause was my fault, I used a registry cleaner.

Tried numerous times, had to reload ACAD numerous times.

Gave up trying to use any registry cleaner. The Symantic program had a problem with similar *.exe files. Stay away from registry cleaners is advice supported by many who know various OS's (operating systems). Ouch! Was a real pain in the you-know-what!

You aren't wrong, took me 3 days to fix my mates computer once (he deleted half the .ini files as well as cleaned his registry!!!!)

I do this, but it still goes back to the 2008 version. The only way I can get it to work is to rename the acad.exe that is in the 2008 folder. But then if I need the other program, I have to go back and name it back to acad.exe.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Most "pro's" say, "No to registry cleaners."

I had AutoCAD 2000 added '05, or, I forget, '05 added '07.

The problem I experienced, like your mates, was the ACAD.exe files as well as the *.ini files.

Never again. I must have loaded the CAD programs three, four times.

All was well except I had the registry cleaner scheduled to run. CANCELLED THAT MONSTER program! :x

Today, all runs well. :)

I don't have your "double click answer", but what I do with multiple cad programs is this. Just open 2010 by itself, then open the files you want all day long from there. The first opening of 2010 by itself will be slower than the double click, but once you're in, it's game on.
