Ball_Til_Ya_Fall Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hi, I'm making a lake house for an auto cad class and it's due tomorrow, worth 600 points... I'm really confused on how to do the elevations. Right now I'm trying to draw the elevation for a side of the house with a deck. I was told that the railings should be 3 feet tall, and each rail should be 1.5" wide and each rail should be 3" apart. I just don't know how to make the top of the rail... I didn't quite hear in class how to do it but I heard something about offsetting 1 inch then 5 inches or something... Since it's hard for me to describe my issues in details on here, I'll upload my .dwg for you all to look at if that'd be easier. Feel free to make any simple alterations and upload again, or make some suggestions on what I need to change. Please help me out if you can, I'm border line A/B in this class and this assignment will decide my final grade. DRAWING: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=80YS9K6T Quote
Fire_col Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Method is quite simple: Start Polyline command Otrack from top left endpoint of rail closest to house Start base point from the intersection Select snap from point tool and select the top left endpoint of the rail furthest from the house Then type 1 and enter, there you have the bottom of your top rail drawn Then offset that line by 5" and close it up, done. Hope you get this in time and you get your grades. Quote
ReMark Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 What are you using for the top rail, a 2x4 or something fancier? A 2x4 lying flat has a thickness of 1.5" in elevation view. Drawing the rail in plan view it would be 3.5" wide. Remember a 2x4 has actual dimensions of 1.5x3.5. Quote
