How to save autocad as .3ds*/export to bryce

Im trying to export an autocad file to bryce and the tutorial says to go to export file then save is as a .3ds* file but im not getting that as an option

 

Anyone know how to do this or another way to export to bryce??

Sounds like you could use the 3DSOUT utility. Trouble is, while I know it works in AutoCAD 2007 and 2008 I'm not sure it works in 2009. I suppose you could give it a try. Download it at the AutoDesk website.

download it? it's an external thing now? It used to just be a built-in command thing in 2004.. you could enter the command at the commandline, or use a pull-down menu to get to it.

Where have you been Mike? You don't recall the hue and cry that went up when 3DSOUT was removed? Even the CADTutor himself was caught unawares.

Bryce accepts DXF imports.. you just have to pay attention to how your solids are created. I seem to recall issues with "flipped normals" if you made things a certain way.
