ReMark Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Put this under the category of things I didn't know AutoDesk recommends. This comes straight from AutoCAD 2010 Help. "Layout tabs access an area called paper space. In paper space, you place your title block, create layout viewports to display views, dimension your drawing, and add notes." If that's the case, why did they come up with Annotative Scaling? Quote
MikeScott Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Because they cater to old school folks like myself and leave the option open, I guess. I've never liked the thought of paperspace dimensioning.. Don't you have to lock down the mview and set-up percentages for the dimension scales, which have to change if you decide to unlock and change your zoom? I remember trying that back in the day and getting frustrated with it. Any improvements to the system? Quote
ReMark Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 (edited) I think you have things mixed up a bit. I do all my dimensioning in my layout. I use but one dimension style. Yes, I lock the viewport display but not for dimensioning reasons per se. You do have to use associative dimensioning. I don't dimension anything until I have all my viewports laid out and their scales established. I can count on one hand the number of times I changed my mind about a viewport scale after having dimensioned the objects contained within. I've tried my hand at annotative scaling and although I can see where it does have some benefits for some users those benefits did not play much of a factor in what I do. One big advantage for me is no need for maintaining a long list of scales! Have never had to use the Scalelistedit command either. Edited June 5, 2014 by ReMark Quote
