I've been working up a module assembly of like 500 components when counting 300+ fasteneres and such. I've made extensive use of XREFs and have all the components as individual blocks. This worked well for me when I started making the component drawings. I inserted each as a block into the model space of a template I'd been given. And I had the preset ortho and iso views and standard notes and such. I added dimensions and was good to go.

I did them first as this was my first drawing package, and I knew they would be easier to handle, and I might learn some skills along the way. So tonight I am trying my hand at the assembly drawing. With a quick test, I confirmed what I was thinking, that if I put an XREF into my template to make an asm dwg, then try to email the asm dwg to a coworker, he will be unable to open it in AutoCAD and see the images on the layout tab or print it with the image on there, unless I give him the XREF files as well. These number like 30 files, and probably 30 MB total. So, that's not possible.

The dwg file will reside on a shared drive in a folder with all the XREF files of the components. So, I'll be able to have a master file there, and plot the sheets off from there. I could save them off to pdf or some other format as well. But is there any way, short of binding the XREFS all back in to be able to have a file that was just the asm dwg file that a coworker could open, check a dimension, add a note, and save without having access to the 30 XREF files?

Just wondering. Thanks.
