gsksun4 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Any reason why the text height box went dead in Mod Multileader Style, Content Tab? I had it before, it's in my notes. It works in a new drawing, but not an existing drawing I have. I can change it each time the Text Formatting tool comes up, but I'd rather do the setting once. Also, does the Text Formatting tool have to open each time to add the text in the command? 2009LT Glenn USA Quote
Dana W Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 That happened to me last week while I was setting up a new multileader. For the life of me I cannot remember how I got it back, but I did. At least I think I did. I'll have to look. I am posting for three reasons; One to let you know it is something to do with the program and not just you, Two I want to know the answer, Three, so I will get an email when somebody else posts to the thread. Let's see what happens. Quote

I can tell you this, it works when I open a dwg with a recent release of AutoCad or obviously a new dwg, but not when I open an old release. We have many files in release 14 and 2000i. Those seem to have the problem. Glenn Quote

When I changed my text style my height adjustment came back on, but I still don't know why. I changed the style from @Arial MS to Arial because there was no plus/minus sign in the MS version, and there was my height thingy right where it belongs. Quote

Go into STYLE and set the text height to zero for the text style being used in mleader. Actually the text height adjustment is available in the multileader manager "Modify" dialog, at least in my 2009 LT version. I am still going with the font being the guiding influence over when and why it might be grayed out at times. At least that is the only time I had it flip back and forth on me, when changing text style. Quote
Dana W Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 OK, so I stumbled across the solution to this little problem, while trying to learn how to "Expertly" set up text and dimension styles, which is a much bigger problem (for me, anyhow). It seems if I hover my cursor on something for a few seconds, a little popup pops up and tells me what the something is for. If I keep the hover for a bit longer, the popup gets way bigger and tells me lots of interesting things about the object I am hovering on. This is what it told me about the text height scroll box on the dimension style and multileader style modification dialog boxes. The text height adjustment scroll is grayed out in the dimension and multileader style mod box when you use a Text style in one of them that has had its own text height set to a value greater than zero. Aparently, AutoCAD assumes you want to be able to control your text height globally from the text style if you actually give it a height. If you leave your text style height at 0.0, then you will be allowed to set up multiple dimesion styles, and multiple leader styles, each with their own text height, all using the same global text style. Boy, that could be convenient! Quote

gsksun4 Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 I gave you that exact solution above, I guess you didn't understand what I had posted. rkent and Dana, I got the height setting back in the multileader style mgr by changing the style, as Dana suggested and also used the method rkent suggested, I guess all's well except for that text formatting box that opens each time you type in the text. I thought you could eliminate that, once the text settings were set. Glenn Quote
Dana W Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I gave you that exact solution above, I guess you didn't understand what I had posted. Sorry, rkent. Yes you did post the solution. And, I did missunderstand what you were saying. I thought you were indicating that the text height could ONLY be adjusted in the text style dialog. I guess I had a senior moment, read too fast or something. At least we got to discuss some of the advantages of the way the whole text height issue is handled. Oh, and gsksun4, you are going to need that text formatting box. Boy, are you going to need it. You can't make it go away as far as i know. It has text controls that are not available anywhere else in AutoCAD. If it were not there, I would be trying to find a job on a crab boat. I may do that anyway given how much I have discovered I don't know about this program in the last couple of weeks. Quote

Had some Phillips/Maryland crab cakes not long ago, and boy were they good. Thanks for all your help. Glenn OK, I spoke too soon. I did a stretch on the block (SLOT) to fit the text. Then when I changed it back to a smaller slot, the text would not center in the slot. The text in the block editor only says tagnumber. I could move that "TAGNUMBER" centered in the block editor though. I guess at this point that's the way to do it. Any other suggestions anyone? Hmmmmm, will have to pick this back up tomorrow. Quote
