Gill Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Hi my name is Gill, and i am a UK university student doing a report assignment on an imaginative manufacturing company. I am wishing to find out regarding some information on solidworks. firstly i have decided to outsource my cad, due to the background of the imaginative company is only small at 350 employees, this would be more cost effective. I am wanting to find out regarding general cost prices of outsourcing solidworks, and what kind of hardware/software the manufacturing company would need in house...I ask, as i am finding it hard to locate this general/approx information and i have tried to phone/email some outsourcing companies, and they do now wish to provide this information. thank you for any of your input, kind regards Gill, UK University student. shift1313 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Well gill 350 employees is a lot. There are companies of under a dozen people that do their own cad work. I think we would need a little more info about the type of products you are thinking about and how far you want them to take the design. For instance there are designers who take care of the shape of a part and send it off overseas and let someone else handle the fastening components. Usually when outsourcing work you (the employer) would possibly send it out to bid. The price could be set for the product, or by an hourly rate and so on. But as i mentioned the type of product and how far they are going with it will greatly change your answer. Its one of those things where you would post a job(possibly online, there are a few places) and set your price and see who bites. http://www.anderselite.com/architecture/cad_technician_jobs_ A lot of the things i am seeing lately go as low as $10/hr(USD). Gill Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 Hi thanks for you reply! Sorry i was at a loose end yestersday with my research and i forgot to add details! The company manufacturer compact florescent lightings. From the background, i feel their growth is slow but continuous. So i have taking this thought as the do not produce new stock frequently.. new range once/twice yrly. They are located within good nation and international transport links, with a good solid customer base grown over the last 10yrs. i did come across some outsourcing that priced at hrly rates....just feel my report would look more professional with price costing either hrly or outsourcing subscription. This report is out of my comfort zone... but i am enjoying it... and learning a lot of research skills! thank you for you reply this is appreciated kind regards Gill Quote
Gill Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 just a thought.. the design ( which they have a design electrical enginerring department on site), would work in collaboration with the CAD specialists....as company feedback would come back through their marketing deparment to filter through for changes or new ideas.....
