Where in 2007LT is the tracking I used in 2000LT?

In 2000LT, I frequently used the "Tracking" feature.

Let's say I wanted to begin a line at a point that was 5 inches from the end of a line.

I would hit the line command and 'specify first point' would come up.

I would then hit 'tracking' and it would sort of interupt the line command until I hit 'enter' to exit tracking again.

While tracking, I could snap to the end of the above referenced line and move over 5 inches to get to the point I wanted and then exit tracking to finish the line command.

I use this tracking feature all the time in 2000LT and I have stalled on getting going on the 2007LT because of this (yes, I'm way behind).

Can anyone help figuring out how I track in 2007?

Thanks for any help.

I beleive it's an "autotrack" feature that's now called object snap autotracking.

I remember discovering it once, and then never went back to it.. but I guess I really should.. I rely far too much on drawing guidelines all the time to determine centers of faces and stuff.

I'm rough on the v2007LT, so I had to go back and experiment a little.

This is not the tracking that I used in the v2000LT.

The tracking I was used to in v2000 put whatever command you were

in at the moment (line, circle whatever) on hold and allowed you to move around the drawing "tracking" to whatever point you wanted to start a line, place the center of a circle or whatever.

When you got to the point you wanted, you pressed 'enter' to exit tracking and then finished drawing whatever you were before you started tracking.

Thanks for your effort anyway, Mike.

I guess bump then for any other ideas.

ETA: I think I found it.

I started a line command. Before I enter the 2nd point for the other end of the line, I enter TK, which appears to enter the same kind of tracking mode that I did in v2000LT.

I can track around the screen in the same way, and when I get to the point I want I exit the TK command and the second point of the line goes there.

There was a tracking icon in v2000LT. Is there one for the TK command in v2007LT?

If anyone can confirm I'm on the right track, I'd appreciate it.

All the cool kids are using object snap tracking these days ;-)

It works a bit like the tracking command and ortho together and it's really simple and intuitive.

Well, that settles it then. :D

Kidding aside, this is what Mike suggested above, but in my admittedly brief investigation, it didn't appear to be what I wanted.

But two people that know way more than me have pointed me in that direction, so I will need to play with it some more to see if I can get it to do what I want.

Thanks to all!

ETA: Ooooh ...... that's pretty cool. At first I didn't understand I needed to keep the cursor on whatever reference line than ran from the snap point. As soon as I realized that, it does indeed seem to be a neat way to track and easier than what I used to do in v2000. Outstanding.
