Layers in Layouts

Hey there, I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009

Question, is it possible to create one layer, which for example sake let's say contains 10 different squares I draw on that layer, then make multiple layouts and delete some of those squares on each layout (but not from others)? Normally if you tried this anything you deleted in the layout would be deleted from model space and so this wouldn't work. My workaround which I dislike is having to create multiple layers in model space containing the same set of squares and just overlapping each other. Then in each layout turning all the other layers off but the one I want to edit and go from there. It's unproductive and annoying especially for the amount of layouts I need for this drawing. (the other way is to make multiple .dwg files instead of multiple layouts but in this case I don't want to do that either).

To be clear I mean I freeze the VP of all other layers containing the same squares overlapping each other that I don't want to edit in each layout.

Aside from clipping your viewport (wouldn't really give you what you want anyway) you are doing it the only way possible. Objects on the same layer cannot be isolated in any way, with respect to viewports.
