sigibbons Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I'm a beginner using AutoCAD Architecture 2010. I am having to reproduce a set of drawings for a small dwelling for a university assignment and am very nearly there but have some final issues. The issue's i'm having is with with editing roof slabs, adding a standard fascia, soffit and gutter detail. I think i need to draw a profile of the eaves (Fascia, Soffit, Gutter) and then autocad will extrude it along the edge of my roof. Not sure how to do this though? Other things are adding tiles to the roof slabs and making my brick external walls extend up into the underside of the roof (gable end). If its easier I could send over my rather poor drawing for somone to take a look at. Many Thanks! Simon Quote
ReMark Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Can't believe you got no responses. We'll give this thread a bump and see what happens. I use plain AutoCAD so I cannot speak specifically to your problems but in general it would seem that yes, you could extrude the profile of an object, like a gutter, along a line that represents the edge of your roof. MikeScott Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I didn't answer because it's a fairly involved question, and like ReMark, I'm not using ACAD ARCH, and there may be streamlined commands that do that sort of thing. It also kinda depends on whether you need to do an internal roof truss system too, or just an outside surface thing. Looking at this as a drafting assignment though.. Since you need to do details, do those first and then extrude them to start you off. At least that's how the basic autocad guys would likely do it.. Unless they did an overall "floorplan" for the footprint of the eaves, and then extruded/lofted into the shape at the top of the roof (or subroof)? THEN extruding details like gutters and positioning them on the basic starting subroof. I'm also guessing you'll then need to switch your UCS to match the angle of the roof surface to position your rooftiles in a staggered ARRAY. Basically, it sounds like you need to look at UCS systems availible in AutoCAD. Surely, there's SOMEONE with AutoCAD Arch that is willing to lend a hand here? Quote
sigibbons Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Many thanks for your input guys. The gutter, soffit detail isn't so important...... My most important things I need to get sorted are that the external walls extend right up under the roof line on the gable ends? Also adding roof tiles to my roof slabs? Many Thanks! Quote
