Are you doing Architectural plans of a building? Unless you are making an artistic representation there is no requirement to show any surface texture on framing materials. In fact it just isn't done. In working drawings, the realism stops at size and shape. You would just call out the material in a list or a leader with a note such as 2x12 SPF (spruce/pine/fir) rafters @ 16" O.C. Now, if you are just trying to liven up an elevation or are doing a 2D rendering then Remark's suggestion of the hatch pattern is the way to go. Quote
