peterg Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I really do not like the ribon in Autocad 2010, My previous version was 2007, can I change 2010 to look like 2007????? Quote
alanjt Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 RibbonClose Menubar It's the way of the future and incredibly useful after 2009, so you might as well get used to it. Quote
alanjt Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Menubar = 1. I was about to point out that I had already said it, but then I realized you were only answering the inevitable. Quote
JBullseye74 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Don't do it stick with the riboooooon........ Quote
alanjt Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I hate the ribbon but it's here to stay. Exactly. It's complete crap in 2009 (Lynn Allen even admitted that when she called my table out for admitting to not using the ribbon), but as soon as we upgrade to 2011, we'll be using it regularly. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 During AUGI Camp in San Fran a few months back it was mentioned by Lynn Allen that AutoCad will not be supporting toolbars in the future. So yeah... the ribbon is here to stay. I have been slowing acclimating myself to it and I admit it has been a rather painful process after using toolbars since they were introduced. Quote

I was all for them and tried to create ribbons, but the in 2009, the CUI editor kept crashing. Quote
Dana W Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 The ribbon, and associated tabs are just the same buncha chickens in a different chicken house. I didn't have much trouble adapting to it, but then, I still go "What the $%^& is that icon for?" when using the toolbars. Quote

Except for creating Civil 3D objects, I'll continue using the keyboard; at least until they take that away. Quote

muddbutter Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 What the heck is the problem with toolbars? I cant stand the ribbon! It's the government I tell ya! The government! Quote
alanjt Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 What the heck is the problem with toolbars? I cant stand the ribbon! It's the government I tell ya! The government! If by government, you mean Microsoft, then I agree. Office was the first thing to come out with the ribbon. Quote
Krztoff Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 It takes some "getting used to it" however the ribbon is quite nice, most major software developers use the ribbon now - ADOBE, MS OFFICE for example. So it is inevitable I guess, the faster people get used to it, the better. At first it seemed like an awful drag to get what you need, but once you are familiar with it, the workflow is more effective. Quote
ReMark Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I would have to disagree with the statement "...the workflow is more effective." Some commands are awfully difficult to find on the Ribbon if used only rarely. The one way its use can be effective is if the user spends some time customizing and/or designing their own version of the Ribbon as I have done in the past. I designed one that held my most oft used commands which definitely sped things up. Quote
peterg Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Thanks for all your replies, from which I see the verdict is still out. Its not the fact I dis-like the ribbon, it is, as some one else pointed out, it is not obvious where everything is. I learned on 2007 & find it easy to navigate to all the commands, or relatively easy to find, unlike the ribbon (damn ribbon) Quote

Once you get the hang of it then it's gravy for most users. My personal opinion is that it's less efficient for your power users such as myself. Quote
einstainas Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 my friend works on autodesk. and he told me that this guys concentrating on ribbon, not toolbbars. So it means users have to used to it. in my opinion ribbon sucks, i think they should do smth to make it more atractive to users. Quote
