gib65 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 How can I edit dimensions? Specifically, I would like to know how to manipulate the number. I would like to be able to position it manually and to change it to a different value (without changing the length of the dimension itself - I have my reasons). Quote
bjenk8100 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 also, choose your dimension endpoints and then right click and hit text while choosing location for dimension text. Quote
merdrignac Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Could try using the grips to move stuff about, and 'edit text' to change the value. Quote

Although I see you have your reasons, over riding dimensions is almost never a good idea! You could change the linear dimscale in the properties box if you know the ratio of the change. Quote

You could change the linear dimscale in the properties box if you know the ratio of the change. I agree with this. I HATE working on drawing where someone else has edited the text on an associative dimension. Please for the sake of sanity for the next person to work on your drawings, please at least explode the dimension (make it non-associative) if you change the number. Then edit the text like you would any other text. Have you tried exploring other options? You can change the precision, roundoff, and linear scale factor (DIMLFAC, for dimensioning details at a different scale than the main drawing) to make the dim work. But if you insist on editing and leaving associative, you can edit the text simply by double-left-clicking on it. I do this all the time to add brief notes and/or symbols to the text string without editing the actual dim text. If you accidentally delete the associative dim text, you can get it back by inserting "" in the text string for primary dimension units and "[]" for alternate dimension units. You can reposition the text location all you want, that's not a problem. I just select the dim and move grips. If this isn't working for you, go to the dim style manager (type "d" then enter), select your dimstyle, click modify, go to the "Fit" tab, then select "Over dimension line...", with or without leader in the lower left corner. Runnerguy Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 As others have said, editing dimensions so the number reflects something different then the actual line of the dimension, is asking for trouble down the road. You say you "have your reasons" but they must have a close horizon. Somewhere along the line someone will forget and you'll have a mess of true dimensions mixed up with edited ones. Doug Quote
