autosave files

Hi,

I have an '10 minutes between saves' setting, however when i look in the autosave folder (users/.../appdata/temp) there are no files.

I want to know since i closed an drawing without saving, setting me back for 2 hours worth of work.

Are those autosaves only for when autocad crashes?

And if so, how can i set it up to make normal saves every 10 minutes?

the automatic save files (.sv$) are deleted automatically if AutoCAD closes normally, so it looks like you are out of luck.

I don't know and don't think that you set the normal save to an automatic - get used to hittning Ctrl+S all the time.

ah well, i know what i did, so probably can fix the error in half an hour :).

@OMEGA-ThundeR after each 10 mints(by default) your work will auto save in same folder where your dwg file...it's *.bak file and its hidden. first enable show hidden file option in window explorer-tool>option then go to your folder where is your dwg file. select your .bak file change its format from .bak to .dwg.open it you just lose your last 10mints work.....

well no, you have the autosave function mixed up with the bakup-file-function.

The autosave-function saves every 10 minutes (as default, or whatever increment you set it as in Options) to a temp-location and when AutoCAD closes normally, the autosave-files (.sv$) are deleted.

The Bak-file function (if you have it turned on, which you should - ISAVEBAK = 1) means that every time you save the DWG manually, the last save is turned into a BAK-file (.bak). To use the BAK-file, rename the file as .dwg and open it normally.

As i also understand the BAK files are an 'exact' copy of the original file and are saved (by default) when you manually save.

But if i save manually i don't lose my work :). (But then i do HAVE to save it and not in a blind rush close the drawing and don't save :P)

yep, You execute save number 1. You do changes. You execute save number two - and automatically save number 1 is saved as the .BAK. So it is an exact copy, just one step behind. The BAK have saved me lots of time - not so often from Oh star the whole computer crashed - but often from oh stars the client just called again and all the changes of the last hour are scrapped.

when you save a drawing the exiting file gets renamed .BAK and your current drawing becomes the new .DWG file. That way the .BAK is just one save behind.

It will only really save you if you only want to go back to the last QSAVE but no further. And QSAVE is by far the best option for your type of problem (in the future).

Hmz. i didn't knew that about the bak files.

Autosaves only save if you dont save within the specified time. The timer resets when you save.

Its worth pointing out that if you have 'incremental save percentage' set to anything but 0 then its only a command log file that gets saved, whereas if set to 0 a full copy of the drawing at that time gets saved.
