Changing Lines into Dimensions

Recommended Posts

I don't know if there is a way but figured I'd ask. Didn't find anything about it on other threads.

I have a drawing where all of the dimensions aren't really dimensions, just a bunch of lines and arrows. I'm wondering if I can change them into associated dimensions without deleting them. I use AutoCAD 2009. That even possible?

Not without a bit of coding and even then, you'll probably do as much work as it would be to just re-Dimension them.. Dimensions weren't designed to be exploded.

Hopefully whoever exploded those dimensions can say, "May I take your order please?"

Watch out for that drawing. I bet there has been a change made in size somewhere, and it was easier for the nincompoop to edit the exploded dimensions than redraw some of the drawing.

Haha, yeah..

You're right. Some of the dimensions were off. I erased all of the exploded dimensions, and redimenioned everything and found that it was wrong. I needed the part for one of my drawings and found it on a website, so I'm not sure who did the drawing in the first place but it's all good now.

Or in my office.

Stuff like this seems to be getting more common lately as our clients are unwilling to pay for quality work and therefore we are stuck with employees that don't find a problem with doing this kind of stuff. It's very frustrating for those of us who actually respect what we do for a living and like to do it correctly.

Yeah, it's a shame.

I've even had a boss ask me why I couldn't just change the numbers on a minor floorplan revision when I told him it'd take me an hour to redraw. I think he got the point when I showed him that widening the garage by a foot would add another whole 28 foot 8/12 truss to the roof and change the look of the elevation. Guess who'd catch the heat for the materials takeoff being wrong by a couple thousand dollars. At least he said he shoulda realized that.
