AutoNewbie Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I've noticed that when I select a large area of a dwg and assign it to a layer, that the selected areas don't seem to take on the properties I've set up for that layer, such as color. I've had to go in on a smaller scale and select portions of the same area and reassign it to the desired layer to get it to take on the properties of the layer. Is it me? Quote
ScribbleJ Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 This doesn't make much sense. Selection of a large area as opposed to a small area is still a selection. I'm not sure what to say on this matter other than that. Quote
Dana W Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Do those other objects that don't change have the original color or other properties asigned to them by a parameter other than "By Layer"? Is it just a regen issue? Quote
AutoNewbie Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 I tell ya, it's maddening. I can go back after selecting an area and assigning it to a layer, select the large area and it will show that yes, it's on the correct layer and the color is set to "by layer" but it's still not the right color. Then I select a small section, and sure enough it's still part of the original layer. I have to take the drawings little bit by little bit to get them moved to the right layer. An example would be a entire floor of a hotel. If I select the entire drawing and try to move it to layer 0, it will show that it has indeed moved, but it will not take on the color of layer 0. I have to go back in and move chunks, like 1 or 2 rooms at a time to the new layer to get them to take on the properties of the new layer.... Quote

I wonder if there is an object quantity limit for a selection? I know there is a variable limit for the number of grips that are displayed in a selection in the options dialog. I have mine set at 100, but I never encounered this problem myself. OK, try grasping at this straw. Make the objects all a group first. That might help, dunno. It is possible the reluctant objects might not join the group anyway. Pretty weird. I am out of guesses at the moment. Wait, wait. A couple more. 1. Do you zoom any of those objects off the screen at any time? 2. Is this a left to right select window leaving some part of these objects outside the window? That's it. I dunno. I looked up the F1 and nothing in there mentions running into any limit for total number of objects selected. Quote
AutoNewbie Posted July 3, 2010 Author Posted July 3, 2010 I dunno. This installation has other wierdness as well. Buttons not displaying, really slow save response on some drawings, just general wackyness. I guess I'll have to strip out the whole machine and rebuild.... Ahh Windows:x ... *nix anyone? Quote
