MisterJingles Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Hi all Could someone explain the primary purpose of a dxf file? Is it purely a format which can be used across different programs? So if I open a dxf in Acad does it have all the same functionality as a dwg drawing? Thanks Rob Quote
MSasu Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 (edited) Since for long time Autodesk’ proprietary format DWG has un-disclosed specifications, in order to have a format for interoperability with other applications, they introduced the DXF. It is a text format file that contained description of all items in drawing. Regarding functionality, some features may be loosed when saved as DXF.
