bjenk8100 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Hello, I am trying to use two different scales on one drawing. One detail is to be at 3"-1' and the other detail is to be 6" -1'. What is the best way to do this? I usually do an entire drawing into one scale but here i cant. THe only thing that i could think of is make your drawing to one of the scales (3"-1' for instance) and then highlight teh other one that is to be 6"-1' > scale > select base point and type .5. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. tnx Quote
ReMark Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Draw everything in model space at full size. Switch to a layout. This gives you access to paper space. Create two viewports. Assign a different scale to each viewport. Any other way is just based on the "old" way of doing things. We need to get away from that mindset. Agreed? Quote
bjenk8100 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 ok i made a new viewport. the entire drawing (2 details) is displayed in the viewport. If i edit the viewport it edits the detail in model space. i want to have two viewports with eaech detail at a different scale. Quote
BenE Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 You are on the right track, but just set the viewport scale on the bar below your viewport rather than editing the drawing inside of the viewport. Quote
ReMark Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 You could have 100 objects drawn over in model space and when you open your layout you could have a viewport for each one of those objects and they could all be a different scale if that's what you needed. Create your two viewports and assign a different scale to each. Then, activating each viewport in turn, use the pan command to move the object you want into the center of the viewport. Note that viewports themselves can be resized once you go back into paperspace. Once you have done this right-click on the viewport and from the flyout menu select Display locked. Set this to "yes". Now anytime you enter a viewport and move around, pan or zoom when you pop back into paper space the viewport display will default back to the "locked display". Quote
ReMark Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 There is only one castor mount created back in model space (at full size). One other point that should be made. Create a layer named Vports or Viewports. Assign it a distinct color (mine is red) and set the layer to Not Print. The viewports you create will be easy to spot and you won't have to worry about freezing the layer before printing. When you do print the viewports will not show up. Quote
bjenk8100 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 wow this is all a new concept for me but it makes your drawings much more professional we will see how this works out for me tnx Quote
bjenk8100 Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 how exactly do you assign a viewport to a layer. Is it as simple as create a layer, highlight viewport, ctrl 1, choose layer? Quote
ReMark Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I have a master template with the layer Vports already included in it. Use Properties or Quick Properties to change the layer your viewport is currently on to the newly created viewports layer. Quote
bjenk8100 Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 you have a master template with youir viewports but dont the # of viewports change per drawing? Quote
ReMark Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 (edited) The master template has a layer specifically named Vports. It does not have any viewports themselves because as you may surmise each drawing is different. The number of viewports will be different as well as the scale of the viewports. Note: set your Vports layer to "no print". Edited August 10, 2010 by ReMark Quote
daft vader Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 "Vports" is just a layer that you assign your viewpoint/points to be on , you can adjust the size of your viewpoint for ever drawing you do its not fixed in size edit Sorry Remark didnt see you had replied already Quote
