My company recently changed over to Civil3D, and in getting used to the new workings of it we have come to notice that the dimension override seems to "take over on its on." We have our own dim styles we use and bring into drawings as needed. After I insert, the premade dim style I need, use it for a while finish what I'm doing, saving, and get out of the drawing......upon re-entering the drawing it will switch to a dim-override? I didn't make the change, no one else was in the drawing to make the change. It's not the worst thing to deal with, and easy to work around, but I was wondering if there was a reason for this or a way to actually "make it stop?" It's not just happening to me, so apparently it isn't system related.

See "Preventing Dim style overrides" in the Similar Threads list below. That sounds like what's happening to you.

Yes Dana, thanks I was looking at that very thing and see there is a place to click off in the "drawing setup" dialog......only one problem, how do I get there LOL? Sorry for my newness, but I promise I won't ask how to draw a line.

Dana, might add that those posts were dated back to 2007, and the only one to figure it out was using ADT. No help found on either page. Ideas?

Hmmmmmm. They're kinda different ain't they. Maybe C3D and vanilla don't have that dialog. I don't have it in LT either. I personally am not really sure what the solution might be. I'm trying to learn more about this software myself, and in perusing this thread I came across that 'similar thread' that looked like the answer.

Open the dimension style manager for the dim style you are trying to use, then click the Overide button, and look to see if there are differences in the setup on the overide tabs. I can't imagine how the overides might have become changed though, if they are.

Wonder if it is something else entirely, like automatic annotation scales, or missing fonts or some other weirdness.

Been there done that. Never saw a fix, however the next time it happens I will use the compare button to see exactly what has been toggled. I would agree that it's a scale issue. Problem is we don't even use automatic scaling.

You do know that there is a button at the bottom right that toggles on and off for automatically adding new scales to the annotation scales? Maybe somebody hit that. It may not do anything unless you use annotative dimensions, though. I am still trying to learn to use annotation scales myself. Still semi-illiterate in their usage.
