DXF Load / Import Issues

Hi all,

My first post!

I often have to move anywhere from 10 to 50 dxf files into cad and I am trying to ascertain the fastest way of doing this.

The fastest way I can think of doing it is to drag and drop each one seperately. I then explode them all and continue with the drawings.

The second way is too highlight all in explorer, press enter to load them all and then copy and paste.

The second way is more time consuming of course, but I have had issues with drag and drop (sometimes what I get by dragging and dropping is different to what I get if I just open the dxf).

I am surprised that there is no bulk import facility that would enable me to select all dxfs and then click where I want each one....

Does anyoen ahve any advice?

possibly, I have no idea how to go about that though

I have no idea how 2009 handles DXF files but in earlier versions you can just open the file then QSAVE it to produce the dwg file. This can be scripted using excel or if 2009LT has it, maybe action recorder.

don't know but I would say yes, just insert them as though they were dwg files.

Do you try to bring a lot of DXF files in the same DWG? How should they be positioned? is there a need to rotate and/or scale them while inserting? How are those data stored (I mean the insert point, rotation, scale)?

Yes they all need to be inserted into the same dwg.

They do not not require scaling or rotations. Posistioning is not essential as I move them all around afterwards, but it would be handy if they didn't overlap etc.

A second area that could save me time is that after doing some additional detailing on each of the dxfs I have inserted, I then number them & have been pasted text and then changing the number. I have tried this incrememt code thttp://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?25972-Numbering-Items-In-AutoCAD, but it seems to start at 1, and doesn't allow me to use letters as well (eg I use A101, A102, A103 etc) and it doesn't let me click to poisition each number.
