Hello,

This has been driving me nuts for months. I know all about annotating leaders and dimentions but things just do not make sense to me.

My objective is to have 3-4 viewports usually one of them 6"-1' and a few others

@ 3"-1'. I do this and everything is fine except my leaders and dimensions are wacked out.

My current procedure for leaders and dimensions is as follows...

1) Annotate>text>annotative>new and then make my text 1/4"

2) Annotate>leaders>annotative>new>content,

In the content tab I choose the text style i made in step 1

3) Same as step two but for dimensions

Now,

I go into model space and add my leaders to each detail and when i go to paper space the text in the 6"-1' is double that of the 3"-1' viewport. Now, setting up my annotative leaders and dimensions means that the text scales to the viewport. Why would the two texts be different sizes. Also, I cant even see the leaders or dimensions in paper space unless i click the visibility tab on bottom right (using acad 2010). To make it better when i plot and scale my texts on the actual paper neither are 1/4".

In summary, I want my text to be the same size no matter what the viewport scale is. I want to have my leaders adn dimensions to be the same all teh time. Why wouild someone want to have leaders and text at different sizes on a page anyway.

My only thought on this matter would be making different texts for each viewport and toggling to each one in each viewport, however, that is dumb because that means you have to work out of each individual viewport.

I am goign to continue and try and figure this out.

Please Help,

Tnx

ok in multileader style manager i choose my style from the drop down list at the bottom and then go into each indiv viewport all is well adn ea multileader has the same text. Again, do i really have to work out of my viewport to achieve teh same fonts in each and every viewport that has different scales. i would love to be able to annotate in my workspace and have the texts be the same in each viewport.

autocad really sucks with annotations:)

Your text must have had the three different scales added to it show it displays properly in each of the three differently scaled viewports.

It just takes some getting used to. Or...you can avoid the problem altogether by moving all your text and dimensioning to paper space by laying it atop your viewport. It depends somewhat on the discipline your in. I have no real need for annotative scaling so although I am somewhat familiar with it I do not use it on a daily basis.

yea i thought about the paperspace thing but i move my objects around a lot

i think my best option for now is to draw everything to scale, make my text 1/4" and at the end highlight an entire viewport, click multileader or dimension from drop down and change text/arrow height to whatever i want and do teh proportionate same to the otehr viewports

frankly i am just glad i found out about the viewports. that has completely changed my style

In the text style you are using is the text height in there set to zero? It should be. Then when you specify text height while using Mtext or Text commands the annotative function will work fine.

Annotation works pretty well so it is just something you aren't doing that hopefully we can help with.

You can move things all you want as long as you set your dimensions to also be associative. Look the word up in the Search feature above. I've provided some further detail in another post about annotative scaling.
