bjenk8100 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 hello i usually just draw in one color black/white however sometimes i need to use multiple colors to differentiate b/w things i have a few issues when doing this first, if i am using yellows and things i cannot see them very well in PS second if i print them on a non-color plotter they show up taint is there a way to see your colored lines in ms but when you go to layout they appear black, and also plot as if they are black? any feedback is greatly appreciated tnx Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Change the background color of paperspace to black just as it is for model space. Tools > Options > Colors. Re: printing. Double-check your ctb or stb plot file setting for the color yellow. Perhaps there is something amiss. Quote
busseynova Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Its a bit complex to explain well here but there should be plenty written online/ in ACAD help. What you should use is different layers instead of different colours. Then providing all your line properties are set to 'by layer' you can change your drawing elements appearance by changing the layer properties in 'layer manager', this includes colour as well as lineweight/linetype etc. you will also be able to isolate all lines on a particular layer easily. To get the plot to come out black and white you need to use a 'plot style'. This sets how each colour of line will print out, I think ACAD has some default ones for printing in monochrome, but you can customise or make your own. Like I say, read up, as I don't really use the plot styles anymore. But that's basically how it's done. Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 bjenk8100: Do you at least use different layers for different objects or are you drawing everything on layer 0? Quote
busseynova Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I may well have misinterpreted that. Shhh. I'm hungover. Oh, and about the yellow, you know you can use more than the basic colours if you scroll down and choose 'select color'. Just use a darker yellow? Quote
rkent Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 first, if i am using yellows and things i cannot see them very well in PS Don't use Yellow or change the background color to black or a dark gray. second if i print them on a non-color plotter they show up taint Go into the CTB you are using and set all pens to use black, no screening. is there a way to see your colored lines in ms but when you go to layout they appear black, and also plot as if they are black? Go into the pagesetup manager and edit the pagesetup you use and check the Display plot styles. This only works if you have assigned a ctb (or stb) that only plots to black. Quote
bjenk8100 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 remark: i usually make different materials different layers. for instance, i will make a roofing membrane a thick dotted line, felt paper a thin dotted line, etc. Wait i just thought of something. When plotting, I can just ctrl a the drawing choose color white/black, and then when not plotting choose by layer. I think i will just use dark color though because i like my paper space to look like real paper. Quote
ReMark Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Sorry but it doesn't read as though you are using different layers for different materials. It sounds more like you use different linetypes to represent different materials. You failed to answer my question. Do you draw everything on layer "0"? If not, what layers do you normally have in a drawing, what color do you assign to the layers, and what linetypes do you assign? A screenshot of an opened Layer Properties Manager dialog window will suffice. Quote
