AutoCad Electrical 2009

Hello everyone,

Using AutoCadElectrical 2009.

I'm know there is a way to have one model space and link/referance other drawings back to the one original. Essentially making it a living drawing. Does anyone know where I can start at this?

Thanks!!!!

Are you talking about Xrefs? Or maybe Hyperlinks?

Xrefs

Is there an easy way to explain that? or a weblink that explains it?

Thanks!

An easy way? Well, an Xref allows the user to attach another drawing file to the current one. Any changes made to the xreffed drawing will be depicted in the current drawing. Since the xref is attached as a link and not inserted into the current drawing, your drawing file size won't balloon out of control. Good for people with less than robust systems.

That's the 5 cent explanation.

Work for you?

yeah, I knew the concept, just not how to do it. Just figured out how. type "xref" and select master drawing. Got it working! thanks!

There's a lot more to xrefs than meets the eye. Consult your AutoCAD Help files for further details. Good luck in your endeavors.

By the way, perhaps you can return the favor. How much experience do you have with AutoCAD Electrical? I may have a question or two.

before I left work I was able to xref three drawings back to one, each showing different layers of the master. So far thats all I was aiming for.

I've been using ACE for a few years, took a few classes on it, learned some. Ask away, if I can help I will!

Another quick question:

So in my main drawing that is ref'd, I added a few layers. How do I get the other drawings to have these layers without adding each layer to each drawing? Is there a way?

Nevermind, just figured out that that project wasn't activated...... As soon as I activated it, it populated the way I wanted.....
