Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I am running Autocad 2011 64 bit. I also run a 3D duct drawing program along with it. I should add that I just got the new PC and upgraded to 2011. Normally when a piece of duct is drawn for example or anything that is generated by CCS as it is called. The item will be placed on a layer generated by CCS which is setup in the CCS. For some reason anything I draw that is generated by CCS is being placed onto the current layer. It is not creating the new layer or obviously placing the item on it. Is there some setting somewhere that would block a third party outside program from creating layers. It makes the items and they are made as I spec them but they just don't go where they should.

Thanx in advance.

What version of CCS are you running? Do you know for a fact that it is meant to work with AutoCAD 2011.

I believe so I also sent a message to the CCS providers. I have the latest version of CCS like I said I upgraded and am putting all new on there

Then I cannot think of a reason why it cannot create the necessary layers. I don't recall a "Do not create layer" variable being included in AutoCAD. Maybe it's a glitch?

Thanx ReMark I'm not sure what the problem was however it's fixed. I had to remake the connection between the CCS program and the drawing and it worked. But as always thanx for your insight.

How does one remake the connection? Do you mean uninstall/reinstall?

Basically the CCS program is opened first. Certain parameters are setup through it. Such as information about the ductwork, pipe and related items. This includes layers for different items. Also specs related to the job such as address, start dates ect. When setting up the drawing it is basically a link to the drawing. You have to open it through CCS though in order to be able to utilize the menus generated by CCS so as to be able to draw the fittings and such. You can open the drawing without opening CCS but you wont be able to draw the pieces generated by it. You can draw anything you want on it except the stuff that comes from CCS. So I was working with layers without CCS closing unused ones and deleting unneeded stuff. When I set up the link for some reason I was the having the problem I mentioned above. So I contacted CCS and in the mean time I tried to make a link for the next floor of the project and it worked fine. So I deleted the link to the first drawing which was thew ground floor and reestablished it. This didn't fix the issue I ended up having to take a copy of the original drawing before I started playing with it and establish the link to it and all was ok. So it isn't exactly like a reinstall but it sort of is also. It is a really nice program and has everything we need to do shop drawings showing duct pieces with elevations for installation. Sorry I got a little long winded there.

No problem there siderus. I enjoy learning about how other people utilize AutoCAD and incorporate other programs right along with it. Thanks for the explanation and I'm glad to hear you got your problem straightened out.
