Civil 3D 2011

First off I have not been to the training class, but several co-workers have and are having a lot of problems with the Database sharing. They come to me because I normally can solve their problems, little do they know I have you guys in my corner (they just think I am really smart :P )

Here's the issue, our Survey group is trying to make a surface, unfortunately his PC is too weak to run it he's forced to use any other more powerful PC that is available. But as we come in he has to move. Even though he shuts down 2011 on their machine when he gets to the new PC the Database says it's being used by another user and he can't do his work.

Is there something he needs to be doing when he logs off another PC to release the Database? Or perhaps a setting we and our consulting firm haven't set in our templates to properly release a Database upon closing the program.

What database is it complaining about? The Survey Database?

Are you using Vault?

Is it just a memory problem RAM, the processor is really about speed but if you are low on memory less than 1gb then give up, RAM is pretty cheap $60=1gb we only run 2gb

All the PCs have 2GB of RAM, after a closer look at the work folder the culprit is a file lock on the Survey Database. Survey.dwl and Survey.dwl2. We can't get rid of them no matter what we try.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is, but have you tried creating a new survey database?
