matt89brooks Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Hey all This is my first day using this forum. I'm not too sure how to do a proper search yet to see if someone has already posted this elsewhere. Basicly I would like to set up an A1 titleblock with attributes. I am not to sure yet if I should set up the titleblock as a .dwt or If I should use the sheet set manager or if I should turn the titleblock into a block. The attributes I want to use are DWG No, Project No, CADD File No, Designed by, Drawn by, etc etc Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
rkent Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Draw your title block in Model Space. Use the attdef command to create your attributes. Save that drawing as titleblock.dwg. Now when you insert that drawing into PaperSpace you will be prompted by the attributes. Quote

In particular with the Attribute: Tag, Prompt and Value. How do you go about inserting the Titleblock in paperspace? Should it be a block or a dwg reference? etc How do I go about getting prompted by the attributes? I have figured out how to use the insert field command for MText based from Drawing Properties (under file) But that is just a temporary solution. Quote
Grant Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 The Tag is a Autocad variable as such, the Prompt is a prompt for you and the Value is what you want it to be unless the user wants it changed. eg Drg_name - Tag Drawing Name - Prompt Dwg1 - Value Notice the '_' in the tag as you can not have a space It is best to do your titleblock in modelspace and then when you insert it it can be inserted to either model space or paper space Once you have mastered your title block and inserting it - you may want to Xref ONLY the parts of the drawing that are NOT part of the attributes and insert the attributes - this will allow a certain amount of control in if you change say your logo you change one drawing (the master drawing) and it will change all!! This means you will xref in half your title block and insert the rest. The prompting will happen when you insert the attributes and you can also double click on the block (attribute) and you will get a nice box with it lised. Hope this helps Quote
rkent Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 matt89brooks In your example, you want the Project number as an attribute. Tag = PROJ-NUM Prompt = Enter Project Number Value = MB-00-000 You can put in what ever you want, the Tag entry can't have spaces. The Prompt is what you will see in the dialog so this is a prompt or reminder of what goes in this space, the Value is the default value that will appear unless you edit it. The example I show would be a way to remind people of the format of your project numbers, with place holders shown until you actually type in the real number. As I said, save the file as a .dwg file. Simply use insert or drag and drop the file into a new file (at this point it will be a block in the new drawing, while the original dwg file still resides on your hard drive), in PaperSpace, assuming you are using Layouts. Unless some attributes are not set properly you will be prompted with a dialog box. If not then double click on the title block file and the dialog should pop up. Quote
