XREF in Paper Space

Hi,

I am working on some residential projects with similar details. I was wondering if it were possible to refer to another drawing in a view port without having to xref the entire drawing?

The main reason for this is I would like to copy a view-port from one drawing file to another, keeping the exact same layout, only referring to one drawing. It it were possible to copy a layout page from one file to another, keep all references the same, that would be what I need to do. The other drawing is already started so if I were to XREF everything, I would have to start the new layouts for the associated pages.

You can import layouts from Design Center.

Will these layouts still keep the same references from the existing drawing? Say if I saved a layout with a bunch of details, will this stay on when I import, or will it have to be xref'd in?

Nah, you'll have to XRef them in.

Ok, so I guess there's no way to access another drawing through just a viewport. Would the best way then to just set up a sheet with the details in paper space that refer to nothing so no viewports are necessary?

Just put the details in paperspace.
