How do you calculate total lengths of a series of poly lines?

Every time I try selecting more than one line I get *varies* for the length. I can't join these lines as they are two separate items on this particular drawing. I'm trying to do take-offs for a mechanical drawing. Any tips? Cheers

Using LT? Use your calculator...

If LT has Quickcalc you can select the polylines (one at a time), click on the Length in Properties, then the calculator icon and use the M+ button in Quickcalc to sum the lengths
