matramurena Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I have this problem now for a couple of weeks. Sometimes the dimensions I have put in my draqwing all get screwed up and I can't find out why. This is how my drqawing is set up: I draw a three-dimensional model in model-space. I select a layout and make 4 viewports. Left, Front, Top and ISO. This gives me a nice set-up of the model. From here I put in the dimensions in the layout. Normally this always works great. However lately I am not able to move the viewports or all dimensions go crazy. Half of them reading zero and all reference-points get replaced..... I even had it when saven and re-opening a drawing. On startup it looks good, but at the end of the loading all the dimensions are ruined. (strangely pressing CTRL-Z returned the dimensions to their proper place) Can anybody help me with this? Quote
matramurena Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Oh, and I'm runing AutoCAD 2011... Quote
ReMark Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Are you dimensioning your 3D model or the resultant 2D geometry? Quote
ccowgill Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 setting dimassoc to 1 instead of 2 will most likely resolve the problem, but it wont link as nicely to model space geometry. It was a bug, I think they finally fixed it in AutoCAD 2009 or 10 Quote
matramurena Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Are you dimensioning your 3D model or the resultant 2D geometry? I am dimensioning in paperspace the views from the viewports. Normally when I alter the 3d-model the dimension will be alterd also since it is associated to the model. Quote
ReMark Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Let's see if I can make myself clearer. You did not use Flatshot, SolView/SolDraw or SolProf to extract 2D views of your 3D model. Yes/No/I don't know what you are talking about. Pick one answer. Thank you. Quote

I had the Dimassoc setting on 2 when I placed all the dimensions, should this have been on 1? Quote

I only placed a couple of viewports in the layout and set the view to front, top and right. Quote
ReMark Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 So, it comes to light that you are dimensioning 3D geometry. Thank you. How do you know your picks are correct? What visual style are you using when you dimension your views? The images are so small I can barely see them. Quote
matramurena Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 I have the visual style on 2D-wireframe whilst dimentioning the drawing. I assume my picks must be correct since the deimension is giving me the desired reading, including the scale of the viewport. The viewports are scaled 1:20 and when I dimension a part of my model that's 600mm wide the reading comes out as 600 instead of the 30mm which would be expected when the picks don't associate with the model. Images seem to get scaled when I upload them, sorry. Quote
ccowgill Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Setting Dimassac to 1 after this happened doesn't make the dimensions the way they should.... I had the Dimassoc setting on 2 when I placed all the dimensions, should this have been on 1? that is what we found in our office is that it needed to be set to 1 when the dims were originally created. But I see based on your screen shot, you are using 2011. I have not experienced this bug in 2011, so it is likely not the issue that is causing your problem. Quote
tzframpton Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Dang, from the title of this thread I was hoping to see some nude dimensions. Quote
JPlanera Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 dimmassoc=2 is associative... on my 2011, i do not experience this issue... Quote
ReMark Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 DIMASSOC=2 on my system and I am currently dimensioning some 2D geometry (via Flatshot_Ents.lsp) that was extracted from two 3D models. WARNING! The following message may not be suitable for tender eyes. "I am dimensioning in my Layout not in model space!" Quote
matramurena Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 I have been trying some things to get it fixed.... Since I dimension in my layout as well I have to have dimassoc set to 2 otherwise the dimentions are wrong. Dimregen doesn't seem to solve the problem once it occurs. It happens when I replace my viewports/re-dimension my viewports and when I put the viewports in a different layer. If I put the viewport back in the original layer the dimensions do not become right again. Thanks for all the advice so far. Hope I can get my problem clear enough in my clumsy english..... Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Dang, from the title of this thread I was hoping to see some nude dimensions. Too cold for that this time of year! Quote
JPlanera Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 does using DIMREASSOCIATE make any difference?? Quote
matramurena Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Dimreassociate doesn't help..... Still confused about this problem... Quote
dradtke Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I had a similar problem and it was driving me crazy. Think I found the solution. Using 2011, I create 3d solids in model space. Dimension in layout. Dimassoc = 2. After dimensioning several views, if I panned in another viewport, all the dimensions disconnected and clumped somewhere else on the page, or even jumped way off the page. Dimreassoc would not work to put them back. But only dimensions on solids; dimensions on sections (regions) were fine. Even if I didn't pan in another viewport, when I printed the drawing the dimensions would screw themselves up, even when they looked fine in plot preview. That one I really couldn't understand. After several days I narrowed it down to 3d object snaps. 2d o-snaps work fine, shift/right-click individual points works fine, right-click and pick the whole line works fine -- as long as 3d o-snaps is turned off.
