Hi

I have been using AutoCAD 2006 for a couple of years now and have just hit a problem I can't resolve.

Operating system - Windows 7

Open an existing drawing.

Open Layer Properties Manager.

Click on the colour icon on a layer to change the colour.

Select the new colour in the Select Colour dialogue box.

Click OK

Select Colour dialogue box closes.

Here's the problem - the colour hasn't changed.

This problem also happens with both the linetype & lineweight dialogues.

Anybody got ant idea what this might be???

Do you have viewport overrides on in a viewport that is taking precedence over you changing the default color/line type for the layer?

Are you saying the color doesn't change in the Layers Dialog box, or the color doesn't change in the drawing? The colors will not change in the drawing until you either click "Apply" or "OK" to close the Layers Dialog. Also, you can't change the appearance of blocks and xrefs that have properties overrides from the layers properties manager.

Thanks for responding.

Dink87522 :- If you could tell where/how to check, I haven't had to use viewports so far but have been clicking around in Layouts trying to get plots the way I wanted.

nestly :- The sequence is

Click on Colour icon on Layer Properties Manager.

Colour Select Dialogue appears.

Click on a different colour i.e. was Red click on Blue

New colour appears in the area below "ByLayer/ByBlock" in the dialogue.

Click OK, Colour Select Dialogue closes

New colour DOES NOT appear in the line on Layer Properties Manager.

"Apply" remains inactive as if no change had been made

This sequence also fails for LineType & LineWeight

You or someone else probably overrode the "Bylayer" property of the lines in question. That's why when you change the colour in the LPM you don't see it reflected in the drawing. A very bad habit you or this other person should break.

This is NOT a line or object related problem.

If I start a new drawing with NO objects created.

The problem persists

AutoCAD 2006 on a Win7 system. And you expected it to work flawlessly?

Maybe there was a glitch in the installation process. Try the REPAIR option.

In your original post, you said it happens with "existing drawings" , but you also have this problem with new drawings as well? Can you change objects colors from the properties toolbar, or are you limited to only one color in the entire drawing?

I have just tried changing an objects colour - worked fine!

Well, at least we know you can change an individual object's properties. Have you ever been able to change a layers color/linetype/lineweight, or has this always been disabled for every drawing?

I had not needed to change layer colour for sometime.

In fact I only uncovered the problem when I tried to introduce a new linetype which failed.

Because its not drawing specific I have even reinstalled the application.

But I suspect the uninstall left some settings in place that has been picked up by the following install

This problem only came to light recently when I tried to change a linetype which failed.

Just found the command line code & used it to change a layer colour sucessfully!!!

When I went back to try the dialogue it still fails
