squatman Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Hi all, At my office we are using a mixture of AutoCAD LT 2010 & LT 2011. To an extent I want the users to have the same AutoCAD setup e.g. "Printer Configuration Search Path", "Plot Style Table Search Path", "Drawing Template File Location". I know people like to customise their toolbars, so I am not too bothered about this being the same. The situation I am in is, I want all users to be using the same Plot Style and .pc3 files. But I don't want to have to go round every machine and set this, but also a user may log onto another users machine and use CAD, which would create the default configuration for CAD. I understand you can achieve this through profiles, but unfortunately LT doesn't seem to support this... I have tried copying the .cuix file into a users application data, or even the default/public users application, but it still creates the default configuration when a new user logs onto that machine. I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum, or has already been covered, I did search but couldn't find what I wanted. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Tom Quote
ccowgill Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I dont think you can, each version has a separate drv folder that the pc3 file chases to, and some printers have different driver files for 2010 and 2011. Plot styles can be the same, template, I wouldnt make them the same either, because there are new settings in 2011 that were not there in 2010, this could cause issues. Quote
tzframpton Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I never had a problem sharing *.PC3 files with LT. Just path it on a shared network directory like normal; as long as the printer driver is installed and named exactly the same on each workstation there should be no issues. And no, LT doesn't support profiles so think of it as only having one profile. Profiles are just a way to store and switch multiple saved settings. So, with LT you only have one option so path everything to the designated shared directory and you are good to go. Quote
squatman Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Thanks for the replies, I am trying to avoid having to go round and set every users "path" to the plotters etc. is it not stored in a file anywhere that I can just copy to each users location... e.g. in application data there are files such as .PGP that I could copy across onto every user so that they all have the same commands. Is there a file that all your "paths" are stored in, so I could do the same with that..? Thanks Quote
tzframpton Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Why would you avoid that? You do it once and you'll never have to do it again. If there's ever an upgrade or a migration then the path will read what's in the directory. If you have 100 workstations running CAD, the changes are immediate and keeping you from going to 100 different computers doing the same copy/paste action. And yes there's a file that has the path's stored in but I don't know if it's available to edit since it's AutoCAD LT. If you just take the time to repath each machine, that's all you'll need to do.
