foot print Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Hi, After reading these forums I discovered I can turn my AutoCad LT 2009 DWG files into DWFx (xps compatible) files, these can then be opened in internet explorer and plotted using Cutepdf pro. What this achieves is a nice small file size, by adding in the step of first turning the drawing into a DWFx and opening it in ie, beofre plotting to Cutepdf, the file size has gone from over 10mb, down to under 1mb. This means I can email files instead if burning to disk and posting. Is there anyway to achieve the same result, without first having to convert to DWFx and opening in ie??? Any ideas would be appreciated as this would save time and faffing around. Quote
tzframpton Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I don't know if I'm reading correctly, but are you saying that the DWFx file is 10MB and the PDF output is 1MB? If that's correct, that is a little strange. DWF/DWFx format has always been smaller than PDF. Quote
foot print Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 No sorry, I'm not explaining myself very well. The final pdf is 1mb if I turn the DWG into a DWFx first. Is the obvious answer to just draw and use DWFx, instead of DWG?? Quote
tzframpton Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Doesn't AutoCAD 2009 LT have a PDF output built in already? Quote
foot print Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Yes but the pdfs are too big, the file size is too large! Quote
tzframpton Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Are you using the integrated PDF output, or CutePDF Writer? Quote
foot print Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 eh!!!! WTF?? Don't worry about it. Quote
Blam Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 He's asking if, when you pick a printer/plotter for printing in AutoCAD LT, do you select the DWGtoPDF.pc3 or do you us the CutePDF printer driver. I'm still surprised by how many people at my work think you need another another program to print a PDF. The built-in AutoCAD driver DWGtoPDF.pc3 usually prints fairly small PDF sizes compared to other drivers because it is optimized for AutoCAD - or so I'm told. Quote
foot print Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Ok my bad, I got completely the wrong end of the stick, sorry StykFacE. I have been useing AutoCad eveyday for the last year and am still baffled by a lot of it's abilities!! Yes I use the built in DWF to PDF.pc3. I'm asking the wrong question, or more than likely my knowledge of cad is so limited, my question doesn't make sense to those who do know how to use it. Quote
