Hatch Patterns Scales Comamnds etc

Hi!

I have been using AutoCAD for many many years and only recetnly discovered the "MEASUREMENT" command. This has allowed me to work out why some hatches are larger than others but I still don't understand hatches! I have a few questions, please bear with me!!!

Lets establish some things I know, please correct them if I am wrong.

1) MEASUREMENT 1 is for us metric people.

2) HPSCALE alters the hatch scale for all drawn hatches after

3) Default for HPSCALE is 1 (tiny in metric)

Now the questions:

1) Does the hatch scale relate to any type of distance variable? e.g. the gap between the lines in ANSI31 is say 5 times the hatch scale or is this totally and unterly random?

2) If there is a logic behind it, does this apply to all hatches in ACADISO.PAT? e.g. scale of 10 produces 10mm gaps in all hatches? (I know it doesn't but there must be some logic to it? Surely?)

2) If the hatch scale is not logical (see Q1) what is the point in the meaurement command and ACAD.PAT and ACADISO.PAT files?

Thanks for your time!

ACAD.PAT and ACADISO.PAT are both based on IMPERIAL inches

ACAD.PAT

*ANSI31, ANSI Iron, Brick, Stone masonry

45, 0,0, 0,.125

ACADISO.PAT

*ANSI31,ANSI Iron, Brick, Stone masonry

45, 0, 0, 0, 3.175

.125" = 3.175mm

If you draw in feet vs inches, change HPSCALE by a factor of 12

If you draw in meters vs millimeters, change HPSCALE by a factor of 1000

Well may you ask

I draw up surveys in metre units, and find that the Acad.lin set of lines, with Ltscale as 1, to be perfect spacing. This does not seem logical but works perfectly. :D

Hey thanks guys. This was really useful. Combined with a tutorial on how to build hatch patterns I finally worked out how to make a Herringbone hatch based off brick measurements! I have placed it below for anyone if they need it.

*HERRINGBONEBRICK,Herringbone Brick, 300x200"
0, 0,0, 10,10, 30,-10
90, 20,-30, -10,10, 30,-10
