rhader Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 I used to be able to import pictures.... such as jpegs and gif files or a bmp file and ACAD woudl image the file as a ACAD dwg.... so that it did not appear as a jpg any longer..... hence you would not have to 'trace' over a pictoral logo for instance... basically I am trying to import a logo into a drawing template... I remember that on the older versions 2006 ACAD for instance I coudl easily import this as a 'Raster' image.... I cannot seem to find how to do this with 2011??? reason being is I would like to add the logo to the block of the template... any suggestions? Quote
SLW210 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Try this thread...http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?60351-Binding-Raster-Images Quote
rhader Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Try this thread...http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?60351-Binding-Raster-Images thx - I saw that one. I was hoping to find a way that ACAD converted the image to lines rather than keep the jpg if possible? Quote
SLW210 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 You will need to purchase a separate Raster to Vector program or trace over the JPG. Quote

SLW210 Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Just use Google......Raster to Vector Some have free trials. Quote
Cad64 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Some have free trials. But none of them do a very good job, IMO. Quote
SLW210 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 But none of them do a very good job, IMO. True, but I have no idea what quality the OP desires and some are better than others. Exactly why I will not suggest a particular converter. Let the OP discover these things on trial and error. It is not like there isn't already 50+ threads on this on CADTutor. I often do not trace too much anymore. It either converts good enough (I gots a converter) or I look at it and start from scratch. Guess which has the best results (hint: It is in BOLD) The converter I have does not work that good since I went to Win7 and some things just do not convert at all, but when it does convert something it comes out pretty good, though in all honesty, it is usually something that would trace easily as well. It is opensource and free, but I think I need to go back a few versions or maybe wait till the next release. I have not tried any of the high $$$$$ converters, so I can't comment on the quality of those. Quote

I have Adobe Illustrator, which can convert and export to .dwg, but even it doesn't do a great job. Arcs, circles, text, dimensions, hatches, linetypes, etc. all get converted to individual line segments. If that's all you need then great, but if you need to work with the drawing and make edits and whatnot, then you're just better off starting from scratch and tracing over the image in Autocad. Quote
rkmcswain Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 basically I am trying to import a logo into a drawing template... The level of success depends largely on the type of "logo" also. A logo like this could be translated pretty easily.... While a logo like this would probably never look good translated to vector. Quote
