Hi there,

I am using Civil 3D 2012, ..the survey part of it.

when I bring in a comma delimited points file, PENZD, the initial preview of the coordinates seem correct.

On import using the 'import events' command, the coordinates and levels are changed by an approximate factor of 3.

Does anyone wknow why this happens or know of a solution for it? There is no coordinates zone, I am just using the files as they are.

Thanks in advance!!

could this be a unit conversion issue?

Thats, what I thought. I am using metres and 1m is approximately 3foot. all the settings are in metres, the import settings are all set for metres...the drawing setting etc. is in metres.... can't think of any other reason except a bug or something.

Must be a bug. When I was using Land Desktop, and set up a new Project and chose metres for the unit, it used to divide all my volumes by 27 (as if the units were feet, and the volume was in cubic yards).

Eventually, I found out that I had to go to the drawing setup, (which was showing metres as the unit), choose Feet for the unit and then choose metres for the unit. Then it behaved.

Cheers Eldon. I think it sounds like a bug, I just checked this with the previous version and the same problem occurred! :(

Instead of giving an approximate, maybe you could give an exact factor they are changed? That might be important.

I am going to move this to the Civil 3D forum.

Go to your survey database, right click and choose "Edit Survey Database Settings".

What is the distance field set to?

What units are the points in your acsii file?

Thanks for replying guys.

RKMcswain...you are a genius! it was set to foot instead of metres!

I was using the metric version, with the UK template. Guess the guys at Autodesk forgot this setting when creating the UK template!

Thanks again RK, I owe you a beer! :D

I don't know if there is a way to set the default for this setting, if you find it please post back.

The default on our systems is international feet, so we have to change it to survey feet each time when starting a new database.

Create a new Survey Database, and get it setup the way you want it. (Or open an existing Survey Database that is already setup the way you want it.)

Still in the Survey Database Settings, click on the button in the upper-left (third from the edge) that says "Export these settings to a file". Place the file in a good location (probably on your server). This will create a .SDB_SET file in that location.

Now, in Toolspace -> Survey tab, click on the little icon in the upper-left for "Survey User Settings". In teh "Survey Database Defaults" section, set the path to the directory you just stored that .SDB_SET file in, then select your .SDB_SET file in the box immediately below the path. All new Survey Databases will use the settings from your .SDB_SET file.
