cmmahp Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Does anyone have any recommendations for converting pdf files to autocad files? Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Your mileage may vary, and I'm sure the conversion programs have improved over the years, but my experience with them leads me to say that you'd be better off to redraw it that fool around with converting it. By the time you fix everthing that comes out converted wrong, you'll have more time in it than it would take to redraw it. Quote
sparkyuk Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 If you have Adobe.Illustrator.CS5 it makes a not bad go at converting if set to export not save as, but like Jack said nothing can do a really great job of it Quote

I too have tried many a raster-vector converter and the result is so ugly it's not worth doing. Alternatively, just trace the bit you need, delete the bits you don't and add the bits you want Quote
Trickinitup Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Hi, a word of warning.... I tried to install the one in the above link (PDF2DWG.exe), and after it did, it CRASHED my computer. The computer initially refused to boot up and I had to get the computer tech at work to restore my profile and fix Autocad which also refused to work, he was not happy. Also when you install it you find it is NOT FREE and asks you to buy the full version now.... What's your experience like with it WATTS? Quote
dbroada Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 What's your experience like with it WATTS?1 post in 1 month, not a prolific contributor. This is not the first time that particular program has been recommended by somebody on their first (and often only) post. In fairness to the program, I have tried it without computer problems. However, it certainly didn't do what it claimed either. Trace the image remains favourite to me. Quote
Tankman Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Nothing works great but, in a pinch, PDF2CAD will help. http://www.pdf2cad.com/ Free trial, very fast, when you really need to convert a *.pdf. Quote
Cad64 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Also when you install it you find it is NOT FREE and asks you to buy the full version now.... I don't think anyone said it was free. Text taken from the F.A.Q. section on the download page: The software offers 15 days of trial period, and this period started when the first time this application was downloaded and install. Please click on button "continue" to see how it works, this does not request a registration code. If it displays "remained 0 days", that means the trial period has expiredAlways read the text before downloading anything from the web. Quote

Never saw any mention of FREE anywhere on the site or in the post. Quote
Squirltech Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I haven't tried it yet but we have a scanner here that will scan a document, (ie drawing), and convert it to a .dxf which can be inserted into ACAD. May have to give it a whirl today and see what happens. Quote
cadvision Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Check out WiseImage from CSOFT. www.csoft.com It is a leading raster/hybrid editor. PDF can be converted. The problem with PDF is they are usually a low DPI. We still prefer and recommend if you are scanning drawings that will require modification in the future. Scan to TIFF Group IV format @ 300DPI or higher. Quote
