i recently transfered the same version of autocad to a new computer. Now all my dwg files are read only? How do I cahnge them back?

You need write-access to both the files and the directory in which the files reside.

I just installed my usual autocad program on a newer computer. now all my dwg files are read-only. The read-only box under properties is not checked

could you give me step by step please, im sorry but I am not that sophisticated of a user. Self taught only

What about the directory that contains the files?

 

If you do not have write-access to the directory, it doesn't matter what the files are set to. Both must permit you write-access.

That's okay, no worries.

 

Try right clicking on the directory itself, then select Properties... from there you should see a separate attribute for "Read-Only."

 

Also to clarify, what do you mean by this:

This is the thing you want to do. They may have been set to read only if you had copied the files to a CD and then transferred them.
