greedy86 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Hi there, I'm having a little difficulty with my AutoCAD and i can't really seem to work out why. It's even quite hard to explain what it is that's going wrong. If i draw a line and then attach it to another line....it's as if it almost seems to associate itself with that line. If i then go to move the line....the other line will stretch so that the two are still attached. It's really quite strange. If you could give me some help...i'd be very much appriciative....it's driving me up the wall. Many Thanks. Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Two separate plain old lines attached at one end and when you move one of the lines the other follows? When you invoke the Move command how are you making your pick? Quote
greedy86 Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Well....i usually it depends what i'm moving but it usually has the same result. Even if i don't select move....just select one line so you can see the grips, then when i go to move all other lines around it move also. It's very strange. I've not long started a new job....and wondering if it's a setting on this new work computer that's doing it....it's very frustrating though. Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 So it is just more than one line that is moving along with the one you selected? Perhaps you are trying to move a "block"? Quote
greedy86 Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 For example.... i've got a rectangle....i select one side of it....and move it upwards....which will then create a paralleogram? If that makes sense? No...it's definately not a block. Just single lines. No 1 in the office understands it either Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 How was the rectangle created in the first place? Why don't you post a DWG file with a handful of these mysterious objects in it? Could it be a "group"? What is the source of the drawing? Was it made in-house? Does this happen in just this one drawing or in other drawings as well? Quote
greedy86 Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Forum Drawing.dwg Right ok.... I've drawn a couple of objects just using the line command and circle (for the circle obviously, lol) Try to select one of the lines and move it away from the object.....see what happens? I don't understand it? Thanks for your help btw I'm not entirely sure i've attached it properly either ? Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Your profile says AutoCAD 2004. The example dwg file you provided looks like "constraints" have been added thus explaining the "problem" you are having. 2004 did not have a "constraints" feature. What is the source of the file? For the objects to behave as you would normally like them to the constraints will have to be disabled or deleted. Quote
SLW210 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Yes constraints are applied. It is a 2010 drawing file. _INFERCONSTRAINTS = 0 should fix it. Quote
greedy86 Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 Sorry...i haven't updated my profile since i started my new job. I'm on AutoCAD 2011 now. How do i got about setting the constraints to zero? Is that the command? "_INFERCONSTRAINTS" Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 2011? How nice. Me too. Go to the Ribbon, click on the Parametric tab then look at the Manage panel. Click on Delete Constraints. Quote
ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 The system variable SLW210 is referring to is actually called CONSTRAINTINFER. I found it in the AutoCAD Help file. Quote

ReMark Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 No problem. We back each other up right? Quote
