jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Hi, I am new to the forums and have searched for an answer to this, but cannot seem to find a remedy. Maybe I'm not searching using the proper terms. Anyhow, just upgraded to AC 2012 from 2007. I have a very frustrating problem I cannot seem to figure out: If I draw a Polyline, say I'm tracing a wall, and when I get near the end I want to track from my START point to align my segments, I can't pick up the start point. There seems to be no way to lock onto it. This was not a problem for me in 2007. I have compared my settings in 2007 to 2012, as far as Otrack/ Osnap and all is the same. Am I missing something? Does anyone know how I can track to the start-point of my Polyline? This is driving me crazy and any insight would be most appreciated. Thanks!! Quote
rkent Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Not sure why it wouldn't work, probably an AC wall, you can always type C and hit enter to allow the program to close the open pline for you. Turn on the SC at the bottom of the screen (selection cycling) so when you pick that last point you can choose the pline and not a wall. I think you can set snaps for the AC wall objects, but selection cycling might be the way to go. Quote
jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Thanks for your response. The problem is not that I can't close the polyline, the problem is that I would like to be able to track from a point on the polyline while it is still active. I just tried it again and noticed that I cannot track from any point on an active polyline. Does that make sense? So for instance, if I make a polyline going up in the Y axis, then go right in the x axis, then back down in the Y axis, I would like to track from my start point to determine where that line coming down should stop, so they will line up. Obviously, that's a very simple example, but the problem is figuring out if I can track from a point on an active polyline, which was not an issue for me in 2007. Thanks again for your reply or any additional ideas/ input anyone may have. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Are you referring to Object Snap Tracking? If so the F11 key toggles that one. Make sure your Object Snap is on as well with F3. Quote
jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Here is an example screenshot from 2007. I began my polyline at the start point and then went up and over. I was then able to pick up my original start point, while the line was still active, and then track over to the right to determine where to end the next line coming down in order for it to line up with my start point. Again, this is a simple example of trying to track from the start point (or any other point on an active polyline). Not trying to show that I want to make a rectangle :-) I can't figure out how to do this in 2012. Quote
jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Yep, it's on. I verified that all my snap settings, etc., are the same in 2012 as they are in 2007. No dice, which is why this is so confounding. Thanks for your reply. Also, I have no issues tracking from points/ lines, etc. that are not active...... Quote
jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Not a thing. Any points on the active line are not recognized or snapped to/ tracked from. Quote
rkent Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I have 2012 and it works fine here and so far as I remember the same settings as 2007 are used. Have you tried it away from any AC objects, just the pline itself? Quote
jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Got it figured out guys, with the help of someone who is visiting our office today. Using the command PLINETYPE. Mine was set to "0" which apparently is a generic polyline, whereas "1" makes it a 2D polyline. Not sure why mine was set to "0" by default, but switching it to "1" solved the issue. Thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate it! Quote
ScribbleJ Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 A quick search in the help file rendered the following: It seems setting this to 2 is the best choice. I did a quick check in AutoCad and mine is set to "2". This is by default (I assume) as I have never changed it. Thanks for sharing what you found out. Quote
jaskraft Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Thanks for posting this follow-up information as well. It's curious because mine was apparently set to "0" by default because I just installed it a few days ago and haven't changed it. I verified this was the case on a couple other machines in our office as well. Who knows...., thanks again for the responses. Quote
