jbwilliamz Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Random question, but in terms of drawing a section through a skewed object (say bridge deck). Would you take a section through the parallel or through a horizontal plane? I've tried to attach a photo, but I'm using my phone. Quote
ReMark Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Maybe your skewed bridge deck needs to be depicted using an auxiliary view so you can show the true size and shape of the deck components. Or perhaps you can best show the decking using an offset section. Can't say what would work best without seeing an image of the actual object you are attempting to draw. Another option would be a half section. Any good technical drawing book should have examples of all three. Quote
SLW210 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Take your section lined up with the object, usually. Need to determine, which will provide the best relevance. I have needed to show both. Is this 2D or 3D. Quote
jbwilliamz Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Cheers. ReMark: any suggestions on Technical Drawing Books? Based in the UK I that's any relevance. SLW210: it's 2D. The section lined up with the object would run parallel in that case. Can you see the sketch I posted? Quote

jbwilliamz Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 I'll try upload something later. Is there a golden rule in terms of sections, generally? Quote
JD Mather Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Section should show true size and shape of the profile through which it cuts. In general shown orthogonally projected from the cutting plane - but if labeled (both cutting plane and view, ex A-A or something similar) it can be rotated for convenience in some cases. Quote
