Setting all Z co ordinates to zero.

Hi all,

Sometimes, I get drawings in which the Z co-ordinates of some objects are not zero. In such a case, fillets dont appear properly. I dont know why these objects get values for z co ordinate.

Is there any method to set the z co ordinate of all objects in a drawing to zero?

Yes, there is an Express Tools command FLATTEN

Use the CHANGE command. CHANGE > CTRL A (select all) >P (properties) > E(elevation) > 0(zero for new elevation) >> (enter twice).

If you have lines which are not parallel to your UCS they will not be fixed. For those I choose lines (from my quick properties palette) after having selected all, and set starting point Z and end point Z values as '0' > then they will all be fixed too.

AutoCAD 2006 has this command. Have you Express Tools installed?

Express Tools is a free set of lisp routines and can be installed from the original installation disk. Many people fail to check off the box that will ensure installation during the initial loading of AutoCAD so you are not the first.

They are one of the first things I look at in a new release, as they are always pushing the envelope, before the crowd gets there. Once installed you will have an additional set of toolbars available in your toolbar list which is just for the EXPRESS TOOLS. By visiting EXPRESS TOOLS help you can find even more express tools which have not been included in the toolbar sets, including some commandline ones. Well worth the time to investigate.

Yes, I think the express tools I use most if LayFrz (Freeze layers by picking), LayWalk (inspect the drawing one or more layers at a time to see if some things are on the wrong layer), NCopy (copy items from inside blocks or xrefs without exploding / binding them); etc.
