DRIFTWOODESIGNS Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 is there a command that snaps your dimensioning to changes in model space. having a hard time with this, dimisioned in paper space but to many changes and found i wasn't changing the paper space dims and decided to move all dims to model space. my problems would be solved if they just stop changing things Quote
ReMark Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 When dimensioning in a paper space layout it is imperative that your dimensions be associative. Are yours? Quote
Dadgad Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) Welcome to the forum. Make sure that your NODE OSNAP is turned off while creating associative dimensions, to ensure that you are attaching your dimensions to your geometry, and not to other dimensions by mistake. They are meant to be associative to your LINEWORK or MODEL. Edited September 18, 2012 by Dadgad Quote
SLW210 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Also, if you delete something and redraw it, the associativity is lost. Quote
DRIFTWOODESIGNS Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 Thanks for all the tips and quick response. Short background, I learned acad so i could get the correct geometry for jobs i was working on and to help my employer understand what we were building. this has been going on since acad 14.Told my new employer i knew a little acad next thing I know, I've got 27 layouts of elevations and details yea for the experience but truth be told i think he's bipolar. That being said how do i create associative dimensions? feel stupid asking, cannot find it in dimensioning styles. Thanks for the tip on nodes! bad habit of selecting all in snap menu. Also when I edit my blocks my dims do not change with it. Final question, paper or model for dims. i've read other blogs and it seems a majority of people dimension in model space. With all these pages some with repetitive items, blocks ect i feel safer dimensioning in model space but if i could solve my problem with dimensions changing with my geometry changes i may go back to paper. Thanks again for the quick response hope i didn't chatter too much Quote
DRIFTWOODESIGNS Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 Told you I'd feel dumb asking that question! thanks again Quote
ReMark Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Join the club. I feel dumb every day I come here and find out there was something else I thought I knew but didn't! Ain't that a kick? Hey, as long as we learn one new thing every time we come here it's worth it right? Quote

I prefer doing all annotations and dimensions in paperspace, just geometry in modelspace. Those who embrace ANNOTATIVE dimensions will dimension in modelspace. Quote
