Can anyone show me how to report the number of scales in an xref when a drawing is opened?

We typically have the scalelist resetting when we open drawings, but if excess scales reside in an xref, they will keep coming back every time we open a drawing. I want to report the xref name and the number of scales in it, so the user can see which xrefs need to be opened and reset.

Many thanks for any help.

Almost 14 years later I am having the same question to which I can not find an answer to online. Does anyone have a way of counting the amount of annotation scale each XRef contains?

Here is someone who found a solution. (I'm not saying it was a good solution.)

It turns out (according to this article) that enabling ANNOAUTOSCALE not only propagates new scales to the current drawing, it puts them in xrefs too. Even worse, it saves those xref drawings in the current file format, which could lead to some awkward results.

All right, I may have something. Go to this page, open the "CAD Utilities and add-ins", scroll down to DBXremSL, and download it. It claims to reset the scale list in all the drawings in a selected folder. It doesn't count them, it just gets rid of the extras.
