Either use the MEASURE or DIVIDE command. Might want to change your POINT settings (PDMODE and PDSIZE).

Thank you got it. To use the points I need to turn on object snap as well.

I would imagine they meant osnap is needed (node) to break the line at those nodes.

 

I would scale the line by 1/3 with the reference option and copy it end to end twice. (And by .25 for fours, etc.) Or there is probably a nice lisp routine from leemac to do all this for us. :)
