Mhanis
Hi All, I hope this is in the right area. I use LT 2012 for some very basic designs on our waterjet, nothing complex at all. It ran fine for a about a year, now all of a sudden it is very choppy when I try to work in it. I can open a file file just fine but as soon as I try to draw something it becomes unworkable. I can "stretch" things fine but trying to draw is driving me mad! I can not think of anything significant that has changed on my machine other than adding Illustrator CS6. Here are my machine specs: Intel Core i5 CPU M480 @ 2.67GHz RAM 4.oo GB 64 Bit Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 Is there any other info needed? Oh yeah, I have service packs 1 & 2 applied to the AutoCad program. Thanks, Mark
rkent
Sorry, but I have to ask, is Snap on or off? Lower left, second icon from left or it will say SNAP depending on how it is set.
Mhanis
Snap Mode (F9) is OFF, Object Snap and Object Snap Tracking are both on. When I made the original post there were "Similar Posts" shown below my mine, I am reading through them as I get a chance. ReMark
In what other ways has AutoCAD become unworkable? Do you receive any error messages? When did the problem first come to light? Do you receive drawings from outside sources? Is the InfoCenter enabled or disabled? Are you on a network? Did you change your antivirus program recently? Did you try disabling it temporarily to see if it made any difference?
Mhanis
In what other ways has AutoCAD become unworkable? None noticable. Do you receive any error messages? No When did the problem first come to light? That is hard to answer as I may go weeks between using AutoCad, maybe 2 months ago Do you receive drawings from outside sources? No Is the InfoCenter enabled or disabled? I don't know what this is Are you on a network? Yes, but my computer is not public Did you change your antivirus program recently? Did you try disabling it temporarily to see if it made any difference? I disabled the antivirius but it didn't help. I just updated my video driver and it didn't change anything. ReMark
So you are working off the network and not off your hard drive right? How many other people using AutoCAD at your company? InfoCenter (a.k.a. - the Communications Center) is basically a track mechanism by AutoDesk posing as a feature. To learn how to disable it click on the link below. http://otb.manusoft.com/2009/03/disable-infocenter-in-autocad-2010.htm Could you better define "choppy"? What command(s) is/are being used that exhibit the behavior? Is it all commands, the draw commands, the modify commands?
Dana W
I have found that using polar tracking, object snap tracking, and dynamic input all at the same time can result in very choppy cursor movement, when the cursor has a grip on an object 'handle' while in the act of manipulating the end of a line. Whether initially drawing the line or moving one end or the other makes no difference. The tighter I have my polar tracking angle increments, the worse it is. I guess trying to display the polar vectors with associated position change fields, osnap symbols, and the movement of the object itself is a bit much for my graphics card. Zooming while doing all this makes the thing go ape snot nuts. I wonder if this is similar to your difficulties.

While I am on a network the AutoCad program run off my hard drive and nobody else uses it. I'll look into the Infocenter stuff, thanks! By choppy I mean that I can open a file (or start a new one) and move around the image fine, but as soon as I began to draw a line for example the on screen cursor lags behind the inputs or mouse movements. I can "stretch" things without too much choppiness but drawing is a beating. Let me say again that the program ran fine for several months and began this behaviour in the last month or so. I appreciate everyones input! Mark
ReMark
Are your drawings stored on the network?
Mhanis
The drawings are stored on my HD as well as on the server, it does not seem to make a difference where they come from, same problem. I disabled the Comm Center and no change................
ReMark
Are xrefs attached? Do you use layer filters? Are your drawings subject to bloated scalelists? Do you have hardware acceleration enabled?
SLW210
Use Windows 7 Desktop Basic Theme.
Mhanis
Going to the Basic Desktop didn't change anything...........BUT........... It seems to be the Dynamic Input, if I turn that off the choppiness goes away. But I have always used that before????????? I hate chasing my tail!! ReMark
Maybe you only used Dynamic Input in your dreams. Hey, if it works don't knock it.
cmeegan13
You should turn on your hardware acceleration, Go to options, System, performance settings, Manual tune, Then select the box which activates hardware acceleration, this should stop the jumpy/choppy motion
